Priene, Miletus and Didyma Tour
Priene, a member of the Ionian League, was an ancient Greek city and a thriving port town that was unfortunately destroyed three times by natural disasters. Despite having no significant political power, Priene played a crucial spiritual and religious role as the central shrine of the Ionian League. The city boasts numerous examples of beautiful Hellenic art, including the Bouleuterion, The Theater, and The Temple of Athena, all of which are must-see remains.
Miletus, the birthplace of several famous philosophers, was once the largest city in Anatolia. Today, the most important remains to be seen are the theater and Faustina Baths. It’s interesting to note that the symbol of the Olympic Games is said to have originated from the lighthouse of Miletus‘s largest harbor.
Didyma, while not a city, was a center of the cult center for Miletus and a place of oracles. It’s famous for its Apollon Temple, one of the largest temples in the Hellenic world, and the Medusa Head. The oracle at Didyma had a significant reputation in ancient times, and it remains a must-visit destination for those seeking to explore the rich history of the area.
