Bodrum is a port city close to Milas Airport. The town is an important port for centuries. This city used to called as Halicarnassus of Caria. Despite the first habitants were Carians the harbour was colonized by Dorian Greeks. Later on the area fell under the Persian Rule and became the capital city of Carian satraps. It was famous with the Mausoleum of Mausolus , one of the seven wonders of the ancient world. Also Bodrum Castle is built by the crusaders in 15th century and today the Museum of Underwater Archeology is located in this Castle. Bodrum Castle or Petronium has a significant importance for Christian history. This castle was one of the most important sanctuaries for crusader for a century or two, until Sultan Suleyman conquered the base of the crusaders. Today it is a popular tourist destination with beautiful beaches and charming nature.
